No More Dead Brides!

The reason I chose this photograph is to illustrate how a simple moment can reveal so much about you. All this couple is doing is walking down a flight of stairs at the Biltmore Hotel in Miami, Florida. Yet, you feel their happiness, you see their ease with one another, and hear their laughter…

Don’t you want your grandchildren to feel they have a window into your soul after you are long gone?  Perhaps this sounds corny, but thumbing through an old album with expressionless relatives staring back at you sheds no insight into who you really were.  As technology has improved since the early days of the craft, why not put a little life into your engagement and wedding album pictures!

How you ask? The solution is simple: be yourself!  If you don’t feel like laughing on your wedding day don’t laugh, but if you want to laugh the whole day including the ceremony, go ahead! If you feeling like falling off a chair in hysterics do it! But don’t just pose! Try to be you! Staring into space with a vale draped over your head, emotionless eyes, and a wooden smile thinking that you are gorgeous stops anyone from knowing who you really were! If you like wooden vacuous photos, okay! But please have some natural moments where laughter, intimacy, humor or introspection can also be seen.

Otto and I have thought long and hard about what we want to bring to our brides and grooms on their wedding day. Well, obviously, good photographs, but what does that mean?  A stiffly posed bride and groom in front of a water fountain? A bride awkwardly lined up beside the bridal and groom party all ordained with perfectly painted robotic smiles? Well, those could be anyone’s photos. We want brides and grooms to breathe life into their photographs, have personalities that shine, and emote real feelings beyond contrived editorial lifelessness.

To record a vacuous, empty look on a day that signifies life and new beginnings seems senseless! A photojournalistic approach by a wedding photographer is what saves brides on their wedding day and in their engagement sessions.

We encourage you to do something special on your wedding day that applies to you and your fiancé… only! Not to your parents, not to your grandparents and not to your friends! To you only! If you have a hobby, passion, or unfulfilled dream why not incorporate it into your wedding day even for five minutes.

You have to keep in mind that your wedding photographs are not only for putting them on facebook accounts, or showing them off to your friends today, but also for you to show to your children and for your children to show your grandchildren in 50 years time.
